AI, Big Data, and Microbiome: LIMB at the 2026 KSPM Spring Conference

Members of the Laboratory of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (LIMB) at Dankook University participated in the 2026 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Probiotics and Microbiome (KSPM) at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Seoul, South Korea, last May 8, 2026.

Representing the laboratory were Prof. Dae-Kyung Kang and graduate students Van Aldren Cañas, Ji Hoon Song, and Jae Seung Lee. The conference brought together researchers, industry professionals, and experts in probiotics, microbiome science, biotechnology, and bioinformatics to discuss the latest scientific developments and emerging trends in the field.

This year's conference focused on the theme, “A New Paradigm of Innovation and Strategy for the Next Leap of Probiotics and the Microbiome Based on New AI and Big Data.” Through a series of lectures and scientific presentations, participants explored how artificial intelligence and big data technologies are transforming microbiome research, probiotic development, and precision health applications. Discussions also highlighted recent advances in microbial genomics, bioinformatics, industrial biotechnology, and data-driven approaches for understanding complex microbial ecosystems.

Attendance at the conference provided LIMB members with valuable opportunities to gain insights into cutting-edge research, engage with leading scientists and industry representatives, and explore potential directions for future collaborative studies. The knowledge and perspectives gained from the event are expected to contribute to the laboratory’s ongoing efforts in microbiome research, industrial microbiology, and biotechnology innovation.

The participation of Prof. Kang and LIMB students reflects the laboratory’s continued commitment to scientific excellence, professional development, and active engagement with the broader microbiome research community.
