Participation in the 3rd International Conference on Beneficial Microbes
The
International Conference on Beneficial Microbes (ICOBM), in collaboration with
the Sarawak Biodiversity Center, was held at Kuching, Malaysia from the 30th
of July to 1st of August. This biennial gathering, chaired by
Professor Dr. Min-Tze Liong, comes back with the theme “Microbes for the
Benefit of Mankind.”

This
year, Prof. Dae-Kyung Kang was the keynote speaker and chair for the Food
Microbiology, Science & Technology Session, in which he presented the
“Characterization of probiotic properties in Lactobacillus mucosae LM1 by omics-based approaches.”

Two
of the PhD students in LIMB: Bernadette Bagon and Sang Hoon Kim, also
participated in the conference as student participants for the Oral and Poster
Presentation, respectively.

The
conference was a good opportunity, not only to meet and discuss with experts in
the field of probiotic research, but also to catch up with old acquaintances from
across the world. The conference also introduced the history of Sarawak Village
to the attendees.
