Participation in the 10th Asian Conference on Lactic Acid Bacteria

Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Asian Federation of Societies of Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB), with the Indonesian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria and Gut Microbiota (ISLAB-GM) as host, held its 10th Asian Conference for Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia last August 28-30, 2019. With the theme "Lactic Acid Bacteria, Gut Microbiota and Probiotic," the conference served as a platform for new information and updates on the current scientific trends and applications that can be useful for both students and distinguished scientists.

Three LIMB members participated in the poster presentation with their current works in the laboratory. Ph.D. student Ju Kyoung Oh presented his work on the synergistic effect of a pre- and probiotic on the reduction of body weight gain and the associated gut microbial community in high-fat diet-fed mice. In-Chan Hwang, also a Ph.D. student, showed his work on developing a plasmid shuttle vector with a bile-responsive gene expression system. M.Sc. student Ji Hoon Song presented his work on the optimization of culture conditions for growth of a potential probiotic strain of Bacillus. These works aim to be of important use in the food and health industries in the near future.
